Trending The New Year From The Past

When I signed up for the New Year Blog Hop I wasn't exactly prepared. I just thought it was a fantastic idea created by Carrie Ann Ryan who organized this hop. It is so cool with many fantastic authors participating, and great prizes too. You'll find me under the link Trending The New Year From The Past. Yes, that sounds weird for a link to my blog. I put the title where the blog link should have been! It doesn't matter because here I am!

To talk about a most memorable new year's memory it has to be the January I won a coveted spot in a hard to get into creative writing workshop held by a well known author. I had to submit a short story, and it won me a spot! It was such a thrill. And I thought yeah, I'm there. I've got to be good to be one of the chosen few by this author. The dreams of becoming the next Nora (Roberts) filled my head.

It's funny  how aspiring authors have so much to learn about writing and crafting stories, the industry and becoming published. That was several years ago. Since then, I've learned. It's not so easy to get through those doors. It takes work and luck and then more work. Since I've always worked hard on the crafting  aspect, the most important thing I learned was how the industry changes constantly.

I believe the most important changing trend today is the advent and rise of digital publishing. And with it, many authors that couldn't find a place are publishing and are here to stay! The trends say it is a great time for authors and for the publishing industry in general.

As for me, well I have several lofty writing/publishing goals for 2012.  But unlike the younger me, I now look at this industry with a more realistic eye. Here's hoping we all achieve our goals as we trend into the new year, and that we have learned much from the past.

Happy New Year! Continue on with this fabulous blog hop where many prizes await you if you leave comments on the participants blogs. I'll have a special giveaway on my blog too. Just leave a comment to be in the running here.

Go to Carrie's Blog first, and from there you can access all the blogs in this New Year Blog Hop! The grand prize is a Kindle Fire! Oh and the next prize is an $80 gift certificate! So go out and have fun hopping!

The digital age is allowing more authors to reach out to an audience, and I love that! My goal this year is to start writing, anything, everything, but to just write! :) richnkathy718 (at) msn (dot) com

If only I knew then what I know now about the publishing world. I wonder if I'd still pursue this as a career! ;)

Happy New Year.

Some of my favorite authors are self published.. I would have never heard of them if it had not been for digital publishing.. Its odd that so much talent didn't find a place in the publishing world.. but some not so great talent does.. I still enjoy both thought published and self published!! Happy New Year!!

That is one for the memory books, Kaye! And you're so right. It takes a whole multitude of things happening to succeed as an author: skill, determination, luck, and lots and lots of hard work. The new digital world is changing around us, giving us even more to learn and conquer. Here's wishing you get all you dream for in 2012!

I definitely would agree with it taking hard work and luck. I would also add talent. I am thankful for the wonderful authors who have the talent (cause I don't, lol).

Thank you for sharing your memory, Kaye! As a reader, I'm amazed at what you authors have to go through to get published. I am so grateful that it is becoming much more accepted to self publish now. My reading experience has been enriched by so many independent authors because of this!

Thank you for participating in this hop! I hope 2012 brings you every success and happiness that you deserve =)

Well my birthdays New Years eve so I could tell tons of stories from that! LOL But one of my most memorable would probably have to be last year just for how funny it was. My friend was 9months pregnant. Due any time and she decided that she wanted to play 'Just Dance' on my wii. So she seriously got into it. It was insane watching her dance with her big belly. I have it on video. Probably the funniest thing I've ever seen. :) Thanks!

My favorite NYE memory is the one I spend with my now husband. We went out with my best friend and her (then) husband. It was horrible. They fought the whole night but at one point during all that craziness he leaned over and told me that he loved me.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

My favorite New Year's memory is when I was around 7 year's old and my best friend and I stayed up through the New Year all the way up until around 4am. We were the happiest 7 year old's ever! Our parents were too wasted to even notice! lol

We usually spend the evening inside with family and friends, lots of good eats...playing cards (poker) and listening to music until the ball's about to drop. Then the wine is poured, toasts made, kisses shared...and then the party usually continues for a little while longer. Those that drank a little too much, or came without a designated driver snuggle in for the night...that's just how we play. Better safe than sorry. :) Happy 2012!

My favorite new years was when I had a fun and crazy party with friends last year, the champagne was literally flowing everywhere since one of my friends tried to make a champagne fountain but it turned into a river instead!

Publishing seems to get crazier every year. Hopefully as readers turn to digital, they start finding the niche markets they love--and find SFR. :)
