This is the day I promised to feature the best opening lines! These opening lines are like flowers ready to bloom forth into great stories! Some writers sent lines from favorite published authors while others sent their own awesome opening lines! The following are the ones I received. Are you ready? Here goes!
~~~~~~~~~
Cari Quin says, "My current Blaze WIP, Heat Lightning has this first line:
Dumped, on Valentine's Day no less.
~~~~~~~
Karen Clark shared this opening line from her first novel:
Wednesday evening was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
~~~~~~~
Linda Banche had a great opening in Pumpkinnapper.
"You--you pumpkinnaper!"
With only the greatest difficulty did Henry, Baron Grey, prevent his jaw from sagging onto his chest.
~~~~~~~
Catherine Bybee said I could use this line, though not an opening it is is a good one.
"A lady is not safe out here by herself."
~~~~~~~
April Vine says, I love the opening from Pride and Prejudice.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.
~~~~~~~
Jaime Saare says her favorite opening line is from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - The Confessions of Max Tivoli.
We are each the love of someone's life.
~~~~~~~
Clare Revell shares this opening from one of her own stories.
Halfway across the junction the clutch snapped with an audible pop and Holly's foot hit the floor with no resistance.
~~~~~~~
Sarah Simas says her all time favorite is from Castles by Julie Garwood.
"He was a real lady killer."
~~~~~~~
Linda Rader offered this classic line from Gone with the Wind to our mix of great lines.
"Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were."
~~~~~~~
Helen Hardt says, you know my favorite opening line.
"My what a beautiful cock!"
Rooster, that is...
"My what a beautiful cock!"
Rooster, that is...
~~~~~~~~
Okay, I know it wouldn't be fair if I didn't share one of favorite opening lines too. It was a tough choice because I have so many favorites from so many authors.
Kaye Manro -- First from my story, Knight Spell.
She must make it back to the rift before a timeline shifted again...
And from my latest contracted story, Forbidden Love.
Not ready for contact with other intelligent lifeforms.
~~~~~~~~
Well there you have it. If anyone gets inspired and still wants to submit their favorite opening line, do it today and I'll post it here now. But hurry, this post stays on top today and tomorrow only. And if I missed anyone who sent me a line, please let me know and I'll post it right away.
I hope you enjoyed these great opening lines. I sure enjoyed collecting them!

I love all the lines, but Helen's cracked me up! =)
Jaime
I agree with J.A.
Helen's is the start of a very interesting book indeed!
Love them all! I didn't share one from one of my own works (as much as I hate to admit it, I can't take credit for the cock line, LOL.) This opener from an erotic UF WIP has gotten good reviews: If I had a dollar for every time I've walked in on my father getting head from some young stud, I'd be a goddamn millionaire by now.
And here's something fun -- my word verification is "joking."
I think it would be fun to do a post on last lines in books as well. In romance, they tend to be quite sappy. lol
"Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were."
That's the classic line from Gone with the Wind, but I also like Sandra Brown's Chill Factor: "The grave was substandard."
These are all wonderful opening lines. Helen's is funny. But they are all good.
Hi to all her stopped by today! I'm enjoying reading all the comments.
A post on last line would be great too.
Lots of great opening lines here! Great idea, Kaye. :)
I second that! Helen's is downright hilarious!
This was great fun, Kaye. A perfect way to wrap my blah-blah day. :)
I like the first line from Pride & Prejudice.
Terrific - loved every one (and wanted to read on, so the writers have obviously done their job).

I love them, especially Helen's.
Am I too late to post?
I thought of one the other night. Not sure when I'm going to use it though - but it goes something like this - "She was very beautiful, one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen - it was just a shame that he had to kill her."
Another one I used recently for a new wip was "If a relationship has to be secret, then you shouldn't be in it."
I love a good opening line. It's the hook that pulls you into a great book. Take care. Caroline x
Again, thanks to everyone who sent in such great opening lines. And to those who also posted lines in the comments. We'll do this again.
They are all very interesting lines. I have to say that Helen's intrigued me.
None to share just now, perhaps next time. :)
Strange, I tried to post here earlier and google wouldn't let me and I saw your comment on my blog Kaye. Physic??? :)
I loved reading all these first lines!
And Kaye, did I read that correctly - Forbidden Love has just been contracted? Do you have news??
