Great Tip!

"We're not writers. We're rewriters. Nobody gets it right the first time. And even when you do sell it, you'll be required to make even more changes. This is a business. Leave the ego at the door, tuck away your integrity, and be prepared to work hard if you want to make some money in this biz."

Yup. Even the best story can benefit from some rewriting.

I love this quote. And now, I love rewriting but when I first started (10 years ago!) I thought every word was set in stone!

I agree and think this is great advice, too. I truly do love rewriting. I've even been called the cut queen! If it doesn't work for many reasons-- slash, out the door. No mourning the loss.

This is perfect advice, and such great timing too, as I'm about to go and carry on with my rewrite.

This is great advice. I really like Joe Konrath's blog because he does some great posts, full of sensible advice for writers. His mystery series isn't bad either. :)

Very true, Kaye, especially the part about leaving your ego at the door. It's tough to learn, but imperative if you truly want to grow as a writer.

... but, but... Oh, God! This is so true. Can I pick my ego back up as I'm leaving the party?
