I'm so excited to welcome my friend, speculative/SFR author Melisse Aires to my blog today. She is celebrating the release of her very special Science Fiction Romance book, Refugees On Urloon (Lyrical Press). I feel privileged to have read this book in its early stages and I can say without doubt this is a definite must read. Oh, and the alien fertility festival is not to be missed! Did I say I love this book?
Thanks for having me on your blog, Kaye! I thought I would share a snippet of world building from
Twenty Years Before The Events Of Refugees On Urloon:
Svana, heroine:
A high tech, wealthy world decided they no longer wanted to be part of the Confederated Worlds. Asha secretly built up its military and began attacks on a number of Confederated Worlds who were unsuspecting and easily subdued.
Svana, a very young mother, lived on one of the worlds attacked. Her husband and two children died. Svana and her remaining daughter fled to refugee camps. Svana eventually found work in munitions factories on industrialized Center Worlds and raised her daughter.
Liam, Hero:
From an affluent family, he graduated from the Center Worlds premier military academy. Over the years, as the Asha war continued, Liam rose to the status of Star Ship Captain. Eventually he took a position as an instructor at the Academy, teaching the brightest minds of the Confederacy.
Rankree and Elaine, secondary characters:
Elaine accompanies her father on a biotech survey team from Terra, to Urloon, to study the adaption procedure the Urloon people use to live in the sea. She sneaks out of the tech teams camp to see the Moonfest, and meets Rankree, crown prince of the Urloon.
Here is the Blurb:
Two weary refugees, two moons and a life-changing fertility festival. Watch out for a whole lot of sensuality.
Under normal circumstances, Svana, non-military maintenance crew, and Captain Liam Ringel, a highly respected military instructor, would never have crossed paths. A sudden anomaly, however, thrusts them into deep space where they are rescued by the inhabitants of an exotic and isolated waterworld, Urloon.
With no rescue forthcoming, the refugees can choose between adapting to the sea or farming the land. Svana is saddened when her budding friendship with Liam changes due to their different choices. However, when they are invited to an alien fertility festival, the Moonfest, they are given the opportunity to create a memory that will impact and intertwine both their futures.
WARNING: Alien fertility festival, aurora lights, dancing alien beasts, body paints and hot pheromones. M/F Sensual.

Alien fertility festival? I love it!
I love the idea. Another for my TBR list. Congrats Melisse!
Melisse, I love the fact that Svana and Liam who would probably never have a relationship become involved because of the fluke of being stranded in deep space with little hope of rescue at present. And the fact that he is military and she a civilian adjunct makes it all the more interesting.
Best wishes,
Congrats on the new release, Melisse. Sounds like a must read.
I'm working on a second book, a stand alone, set on Urloon. I enjoyed the world so much I wanted to do another. And I think there will be a third, eventually.
I have to say I'm completely intrigued, Melisse! I love scifi, and this sounds fascinating :)
